2008 Youth Program Excellence Award

High quality youth programs provide the best outcomes for youth. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) will recognize the best WIA youth programs in Ohio with the 2nd Annual Youth Program Excellence Award. This award will honor the work of youth-serving programs that demonstrate excellence in program design, implementation and results.

Nominations

Youth programs can only be nominated by local area youth council chairpersons. Chairpersons may nominate up to two programs in each Workforce Investment Area (or subsystem for Area 7). These programs must receive WIA funds, be located in Ohio, and provide at least one WIA youth program element.

The deadline for nominations is December 12 , 2007. The Standards and Criteria for Ohio WIA Youth Programs and a scoring rubric will be used by the selection committee when reviewing the programs. The nomination form, the Standards, and the rubric are also online at http://www.ohioworkforce411.gov

The applications will be scored by a three-person team composed of ODJFS and LWC staff. Teams will use a scoring rubric based on the standards and criteria for Ohio WIA youth programs. To be considered for the award, programs must complete an application.

Recognition Ceremony

The award will be presented at the annual Building Better Opportunities for Ohio’s Youth Conference in April. Program staff, youth participants, and youth council members will be invited to attend to receive their award.

Winning programs and highlights will be posted on ODJFS and LWC Web sites, and information will be sent to local and statewide publications.
